Hey,
just wanted to share some pics with you guys.
there has been some discussions here lately about flamenco action, alaskan yellow cedar and sorts, so i figured that now when it actually has a shape and can be recognized as a guitar i might as well post some pics.
this one is based on Bill Lewis' Barbero plan.
yellow cedar B&S are from Dan Mainard, who was kind enough to sand them down to thickness as well.
top is a maganificent piece of engelman i got from Steve @ colonialtonewoods, and same goes for the all the inside the box wood(carpathian sprcue) and the mad.rosewood appointments.

it is BEING fisnihed with a german made varnish that i picked up at the local ACE.
i m very happy with the varnish, its clear, beautiful and shiny without even being buffed - only problem i have is it dries slowly- 10 hours between coats.
luckily its all hard, shiny and pretty much done after two coats.

back to university soon.
really hope ill manage to squeeze some more work in the meantime.

take care,
Udi.

Beautiful work, I like the wide bindings too. What's the brand of varnish you used?

thanks guys!

the bindings are really dark mad.rosewood i got from Steve@colonial.
they are of average width(0.08" +/-), though a bit tall-around 1cm tall. i liked it like that coz i felt the bright colored top/back/sides just cried for something dark to border it and break the brightness.
the top is simply "double purfled"(b/w/b/b/w/b).
again, for the same asthetic reason.

the varnish is called "yacht varnish", you can see it in the pics also.
it comes ready to use and requires no thinning or mixing.

Udi.

Great looking guitar Udi! I too love the wide bindings!

For the varnish, how do you apply it? Foam brush, cloth?

I'm really interested in this, can i buy it a HD? There is no ACE store around here...

Thanks in advance

Serge

Serge,
i applied the first coat with a brush, second(last) coat was sprayed on.
the varnish is very fluid and can easily be applied with a foam, cloth or brush.

it is also available at Home Depot over here so perhaps itll be worth looking into.

Many Thanks Udi, i will check into that for sure, i used varnish, applied with a paintbrush on my first and i loved it, i really think this method simplifies finishing a lot!

Thanks again my friend!
